Overview

Astronomical was a first-of-its-kind in-game live event inside Fortnite — a psychedelic concert experience featuring a giant Travis Scott avatar performing new music to tens of millions of concurrent players worldwide. The event demonstrated the full potential of gaming environments as brand activation and cultural moment platforms, setting records that still stand.

Challenge

Delivering a live concert experience inside a game engine to millions of simultaneous users required unprecedented collaboration between gaming, music, and brand teams — with zero tolerance for technical failure. The experience also needed to work as a cultural moment, not just a technical feat.

Approach

The event was designed as a fully choreographed immersive experience within the Fortnite world — with bespoke environments, physics-bending visual moments, and tie-in merchandise and streaming content. Cross-platform amplification across gaming, streaming (Twitch), and social media was built into the campaign architecture from day one.

Outcome

12.3M concurrent players in the first show. 27.7M unique players across all events. 45.8M total participations across five events. 7.45M first-day streams for the new single. 38% boost in U.S. on-demand streams. 77M+ YouTube views of the performance.
