Overview
Terra is a seven-piece cookware collection designed specifically for induction cooktops — the fastest-growing kitchen technology. Every piece is optimized for magnetic flux distribution, achieving 40% faster heat-up times than legacy cookware used on induction. We designed the collection, developed the manufacturing process, and managed production through to fulfillment.
Challenge
Most cookware is designed for gas and adapted for induction as an afterthought. The base construction that works on gas actively impedes induction performance — uneven heating, slow response, energy waste. The client needed restaurant-grade performance at a consumer price point, delivered direct-to-consumer.
Approach
We engineered a tri-ply base with a ferromagnetic core geometry optimized through thermal simulation. The proprietary disc pattern maximizes coupling with induction coils across different cooktop brands. Handles were designed through extensive user testing with home cooks: balance points were calibrated for common cooking motions (sautéing, pouring, one-handed lifting).
Outcome
Terra launched via Kickstarter and raised $1.2M against a $150K goal. Independent testing confirmed the 40% heat-up improvement and superior temperature consistency. The collection has maintained a 4.8-star average across 5,000+ reviews, with the 12-inch skillet becoming a best-seller on the client's DTC platform.
